About Cantonment Board
Bahawalpur, the city of Nawabs, is located on the edge of the Korean dessert. The city is named after Nawab’s first name, Mohammad Bahawal Khan II, which was ruled for eight generations before being annexed by Pakistan. It is the 11th largest city in Pakistan with an expected population of 798,509 serving as a gateway to the nearby Lal Suhanra National Park. The town was founded in 1748 under the Abbasian Nawabs family until 1955. The distance across Bahawalpur is 45,911km near the confluence of the Sutlej and Chenab rivers. The city has five districts named after Ahmedpur Sharqi, Hasilpur Khairpur Tamewali, and Yazman. Most live in rural areas. The people are very friendly, hospitable, helpful, and kind. The Bahawalpur Cantonment was declared on 14th February 1968 by Gazette Notification by the Government of Pakistan dated 14-02-1968. At the time the Improvement Trust, Bahawalpur also had jurisdiction over certain areas that fell within the confines of the Cantonment. The Improvement Trust was dissolved on 01-12-1969 with a notice of goodwill. The entire Improvements Trust had to transfer its assets and liabilities to the Cantonment Board Bahawalpur.
